Uzbekistan to increase financing of universities, health care institutions

In 2018, 34.7 trillion sums are planned to be allocated from the state budget to finance the social sphere in Uzbekistan.

This was announced at a meeting of the Uzbek government , which discussed the draft state budget for the next year.

The 2018- state budget stipulates allocation of funds for the implementation of the state programs, for which it is proposed to direct more than 8.5 trillion sums.

Also, it is planned to direct 815 billion soums, or almost three times more than in 2017, for the construction of 14 objects, reconstruction of 256 objects,overhaul of 157 facilities and equipping pre-school educational establishments.

To develop the material and technical base of 48 higher educational institutions, it is envisaged to allocate 559.1 billion sums, or 1.5 times more than in 2017.

For the construction, reconstruction and overhaul of 296 medical institutions, 753.6 billion soums were allocated.

Some 915.4 billion soums, which is 2.5 times more than in 2017, is planned to be used to increase the availability of medicine and medical devices for health care institutions, primarily family clinics, emergency medical services.

Fifty billion soums from the state budget will be spent on equipping of medical institutions, first of all, rural medical stations and polyclinics with the necessary screening diagnostic and medical equipment.

To implement the Program for improving the system of collection, storage, utilization and processing of solid household waste for 2017-2021, 163.2 billion sums will be allocated through the newly formed state unitary enterprises "Toza khudud".

For the implementation of the program for the development and modernization of water supply and sanitation systems, funds worth 584.7 billion sums will be allocated through the Clean Drinking Water Fund.

At the same time, it is planned to direct 469.2 billion sums to transport and communication projects and 568.6 billion sums - implementation of programs for the development of social infrastructure in the regions .

For the first time the state budget is proposed to be approved with a surplus of 0.02 percent of GDP.
