The Advisory Council praised the participation of Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in the meetings of the 38th session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council in Kuwait last Tuesday, stressing the importance of continuity of the GCC out of Qatar's keenness on activating its role as well as its commitment to joint GCC action.
The Council also paid tribute to the efforts of the Emir of Kuwait H H Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah and his efforts to heal the rift and resolve Gulf crisis as well as his success in holding the Gulf Summit on time, and his proposal to establish a mechanism for settling disputes between the GCC states.
The Council held yesterday its regular meeting under the chairmanship of Speaker H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud.
During the meeting, the Advisory Council expressed its strong disapproval and condemnation of the US president's decision to recognise the city of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move the US Embassy to it, stressing that this decision, which was rejected even from the closest allies of the United States and its friends from Western countries, violates international law and disregards the relevant resolutions of international legitimacy related to the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories and the legal status of the city of Jerusalem, and provokes the feelings of Arabs and Muslims and all peace-loving peoples in the world.
The Advisory Council stressed the serious repercussions of this decision on the security and stability of the region and on the peace process based on international legitimacy, the two-state solution and the Arab peace initiative.
It called on the United States to reverse this decision and to work on bringing the peace process back on track, which will lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, which will remain Palestinian, Arab and Islamic city despite Israeli attempts to obliterate its Arab identity, landmarks, history and Islamic heritage.
Then, the Council discussed and decided to refer draft laws presented by the cabinet to the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee.
The Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee of the Advisory Council held a meeting today at its 46th Ordinary Session, chaired by its Rapporteur, Nasser Rashid Sraiya Al Kaabi.
At the meeting, the Committee examined the following draft laws: Draft laws include amending certain provisions of the Law of Judicial Authority promulgated by Law No. 10 of 2003
Draft law amending some provisions of the Civil and Commercial Procedure Law promulgated by Law No. 13 of 1990.
Draft law amending certain provisions of Law No. 12 of 2005 on Appeal for Cassation in Non-Criminal Matters and draft law amending certain provisions of Law No. 19 of 2008 defining the amount of blood money of accidental killing.
Draft law amending some provisions of Law No. 10 of 2002 concerning the Public Prosecution.
Draft law amending certain provisions of the Code of Criminal Procedure promulgated by Law No. 23 of 2004 as well a draft law on arbitration and reconciliation centers in civil and commercial disputes. The committee decided to complete the study of draft laws at its next meeting.
