(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- The Golden Group Holding signed a hotel management agreement with Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Mawaleh on Monday.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of heads of state authorities, undersecretaries and a number of heads of diplomatic missions in Oman.
The agreement has been signed to manage the Mövenpick Hotel Muscat, part of a multi-use project that includes the four-star Mövenpick Hotel, modern offices, luxury apartments and retail outlets.
Sheikh Salim bin Ahmed al Ghazali, chairman of Golden Group Holding, said, 'The group's investment in this vital sector is a result of the steady growth and rapid increase in demand for the three, four and five-star hotel rooms.
Our signing today with the Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts coincides with the opening of the new Muscat International Airport which shall create a qualitative leap in the number of flights coming to the sultanate. This requires doubling residence and hotel services.'
The project covering an area of 16,000sq m will see an investment of RO60mn. The agreement was signed under the auspices of H E Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism and was held on the sidelines of the second International Conference on Tourism and Culture.
The signing of this hotel management agreement and previous strategic alliances of the group come in line with the vision to have approximately 1,700 hotel rooms in the next five years in the major cities of the sultanate.
Olivier Chavy, president and CEO of Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, said, 'Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts is pursuing ambitious regional expansion plans and Muscat is a priority market, inspired by government and private sector investment in developments designed to boost the tourism's contributions to the sultanate's economy.'
The Mövenpick Hotel Muscat is strategically located next to the Muscat International Airport at the intersection of two major roads on the Sultan Qaboos Highway and Almouj street. It will have 250 rooms, 115 serviced apartments, two restaurants, meeting rooms, wellness and leisure facilities.
