ADEN, 11th December, 2017 (WAM) -- The UAE is achieving successes in the west coast of Yemen, after its liberation from the Houthis militias by forces supported by the UAE Armed Forces.
It is also distributing humanitarian and relief aid to the residents of liberated regions who have suffered from the Houthis siege, after the victories of the armed forces in the complete liberation of Al Khawkhah while advancing north on the west coast.
The ERC has launched a humanitarian relief campaign to ease the suffering of families living in the west coast, as part of its ongoing efforts to support the people and the victims of the current crisis after the Houthi siege.
The campaign aims to distribute 10,000 food baskets to neighbouring cities and villages in the liberated regions of the west coast that are suffering from desperate living conditions. The total assistance provided since 2015 has reached 84,656 food baskets, and it includes the construction of 22 new homes and the restoration of five homes in Mocha.
Eng. Juma Abdullah Al Mazrouei, Head of ERC Team in Aden, stated that supporting Yemen is one of the UAE's ongoing policies while adding that the ERC has maintained the 120-Megawatt Mocha power plant and restored the electricity network in Mocha and the Mocha Rural Hospital, and has built 16 solar-powered water wells.
In an interview with the Emirates News Agency, WAM, he stressed that the UAE's assistance to Yemen has not stopped for a single day, as the UAE's wise leadership is always keen to support the people of Yemen and provide them their basic needs.
He also noted that the ERC has implemented relief campaigns that are aimed at improving the living conditions of Yemenis while the total number of food baskets distributed to Aden, Abien, Dhale, Taiz, Shabwa and Lahij governorates has reached 500,071.
He further noted that the ERC has restored 23 health facilities in Aden, Lahij, Abien and Taiz governorates.
Al Mazrouei added that 185 schools have been restored in the governorates of Aden, Lahij, Dhale and Taiz, as well as 21 school districts in the districts of Aden while highlighting the provision of 8,500 double school chairs and 2,424 computers over two phases, as well as the installation of 190 air conditioners and the provision of 12 buses and equipment transportation vehicles, 1,000 boards in Lahij, and 255 water coolers for schools. Through the campaign to restore local schools, 5,133 students have returned to their nurseries, 13,8078 to elementary education, and 26,403 students to secondary education, he added.
Regarding hygiene, Al Mazrouei said that the ERC has provided 16 cars, 1,500 waste containers and four dump trucks while the water sector was provided with 50 submersible water pumps for wells, six sewage pumps, 14 small generators (20-100) KVA for sewage, and a 1-megawatt generator that was installed in the Al Mansoura Sewage Station. He also noted the provision of engines and pumps for sewage and pipes at the "Water and Sanitation Foundation" in Aden, as well as the construction and cultivation of seven gardens.
Regarding electricity, Al Mazrouei further said that the ERC has equipped the 38-megawatt "22nd of May Station" in Aden, as well as the 36-megawatt Shahinaz Station, the 10-megawatt Hajif Station, and the 8-megawatt Ja'ar Station in Abien while 10-megwatt electricity generators were provided to Lahij Governorate.
He stressed that the projects of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), or the "Mother of the UAE's Projects," have significantly contributed to helping return the normal living conditions of the people in Yemen. It includes the reconstruction and restoration of the building of the Al Fajr Association for the Mentally Disabled, the Shabwa's Sons Student Housing Building in Aden, as well as the rehabilitation of wells in the countryside, the installation of a solar energy water pump, and the reconstruction of the Al Hayah Association Building for Early Intervention.
The projects also include supporting the Elderly Home Association and providing for their needs, as well as the reconstructing and rehabilitating of the National Library and the Autism Association building. It also includes housing assistance to nomadic Bedouins, and building 255 dams and water tanks in Yafi' to store rainwater, he said in conclusion.
