Occasion for linking present with past: CMC chairman


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Central Municipal Council (CMC) chairman Mohammed bin Hamoud Shafi al-Shafi highlighted the significance of marking Qatar National Day, which consolidates the belonging to the modern State and the pride of its history and founder, and contributes to linking the present with the past, thus strengthening adherence of current and future generations to values and traditions.
On the occasion of Qatar National Day, al-Shafi underlined that the slogan of the celebration this year, which translates into 'Promise of Prosperity and Glory, aims mainly to strengthening the loyalty between the people and the leader, enhancing the sovereignty and cohesion between the citizens and residents, seeking to promote the values and principles of hard work, and reflect them on the ground.
Al-Shafi added that the slogan reflects the optimism of the country's wise leadership and its vision for a bright future, for the renaissance and prosperity of the homeland.
He underlined that the achievements accomplished every day on the ground, and the successes inside the homeland and in international forums, affirmed the steadfastness on principle of progress in work, and the solidarity of all in achieving this, which will all lead to the good and prosperity of the homeland.
Al-Shafi hailed the country's management of the siege crisis, and its ability to overcome it both at the internal and external fronts through adopting logic of reason and confrontation, adhering to all that preserves its sovereignty and independence and at the same time opening to dialogue.
'Qatar has engaged in many battles at the international and regional levels, and has been able to reveal the truth with evidence, which contributed to reduce the effects of this siege and gain support, al-Shafi noted.
He added that Qatar also opened new horizons at all levels and concluded trade exchange agreements with alternative markets that enabled it to maintain the stability of the situation at home, which undoubtedly confirms the success of the state system in dealing with the siege.
Al-Shafi also praised Qatar's quiet and active diplomacy, its confidence and dignity, which prompted international support and admiration, highlighting manner in which the people of Qatar dealt with the crisis, its loyalty to the leadership and the country, and its awareness of the circumstances and repercussions of the crisis.
Speaking about the most important achievements of the Council and future plans under the siege, Al Shafi said that the Central Municipal Council continued its work and performance of its role as mandated, and achieved many accomplishments. The CMC continued study of the proposals submitted by its members, and issued several recommendations to achieve the objectives of the Council, which focus on improving the municipal and agricultural affairs to serve the country and the citizen. Since the beginning of the present session, the Board has issued 79 recommendations, including 34 during the current year, All fall within the scope of its powers under the Law No. 12 of 1998.
He underlined that the siege did not affect the level of performance of the Council, on the contrary, it became more insisting on making achievements, developing appropriate plans for the next stage in line with the current challenges, continuing development projects in areas and sectors within the Council's competence, such as infrastructure, agriculture and livestock, and others.
