Thousands protest Trump's Jerusalem move in Jakarta


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Thousands of protesters gathered in front of the embassy of the United States in central Jakarta to protest the move by the US President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The rally was organised by Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). Jakarta police spokesman Argo Yuwono said there were up to 6,000 protesters in the downtown Jakarta rally, making it bigger than the previous rally held on Friday by other groups.
The protesters, mostly clad in white robes, waved Palestinian flags. 'We demand that the Palestinian people should get their rights over Jerusalem or Baitul Maqdis, PKS President Sohibul Iman was quoted as saying by liputan6.com news web site.
Indonesia has no diplomatic ties with Israel and is a staunch supporter of Palestine independence.President Joko Widodo has strongly condemned the US move, saying it poses threats to world stability.
He also said that he will speak on the issue at the upcoming extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Co-operation in Istanbul on December 13.
