(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) NOWSHERA, 10 December: The people of Sheikhi and surrounding areas have threatened to close Cherat cement factory if their demands were not met.
The elders and local government representatives of Sheikhi and nearby areas said after staging protest in front of Nowshera Press Club on Saturday that the cement factory administration has illegally occupied the lands of poor people of the area and it is not paying compensation to the landowners. They said they will never allow the construction of Block-2 of the cement factory.
The protesters said ground water level has gone down and pollution has increased in the area due to the cement factory. They said the factory General Manager Riaz had signed an agreement with the people of Sheikhi that 90 people from the area will get jobs in the factory, but that agreement was never implemented.
The elders said they will stage sit-ins in front of the factory and Chief Minister House if their demands were not met by 14 December.
