Oman- State Council delegation returns from Sri Lanka visit


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- A delegation from the State Council, led by H E Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, its chairman, returned from an official visit to Sri Lanka on Friday.

During the visit from December 4-8, the State Council delegation held high-level discussions with Sri Lankan leaders to take relations to a new level, a press release stated. On December 5, the State Council chairman and the delegation met Maithripala Sirisena, President of Sri Lanka to discuss cooperation between Oman and Sri Lanka and means of developing them further in various fields.

The State Council delegation also met Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The meeting's focus centred on the strong relations of friendship between the two countries and enhancement of cooperation in economic, political and parliamentary fields.

They discussed ways of boosting relations between the two countries as well as regional and international issues of common concern. Karu Jayasuriya, speaker of the Parliament, received the State Council chairman and the accompanying delegation at the Parliament House.

He expressed his country's keenness to develop relations between the two countries in all fields. H E Mantheri praised the development and prosperity of Sri Lanka in various fields. Their discussions focused on cooperation between the two countries and ways of enhancing them to serve the common interests, especially with regard to the parliamentary aspects.

Accompanying the State Council chairman were H E Abdullah Said al Saifi, H E Dr Muna Ahmed Saadoon, H E Dr Said Mubarak Muharrami, H E Dr Ismail Saleh al Aghbari and H E Sabah Mohamed Bahlani among others.

The State Council delegation also visited several tourist spots in Sri Lanka. On return, the delegation was received at the Muscat airport on Friday evening by H E Sheikh al Khattab bin Ghalib al Hinai, deputy chairman of the State Council, Dr Khalid bin Salim al Saidi, secretary general of the State Council and the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Oman.
