Afghanistan- Turkmenistan promises scholarships, cut in power rate


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) (Pajhwok): Turkmenistan will provide scholarship to Afghan students for higher studies in energy and transport disciplines and reduce the price of electricity has been exporting from the neighboring country.

It was promised by visiting Turkmenistan Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Raşit Meredow who called on CEO Abdullah Abdullah here, a statement from the CEO office said.

During the meeting, the CEO thanked Turkmenistan for its past assistance and demanded Ashgabat provide more scholarships to Afghan students.

Abdullah said Afghanistan was looking forward to more cooperation with Turkmenistan in energy and transit areas and hoped the commissions of both countries would discharge their responsibility in this regard.

The Turkmen foreign minister said his country was ready to provide more scholarship to Afghan students and reduce the price of electricity to Afghanistan.

He said his country's leadership has decided to sell one unit of electricity against two cents to northwestern provinces of Afghanistan to facilitate people there.

Meredow extended invitation to Abdullah to officially visit Ashgabat, which the CEO accepted without specifying a date for the visit.

Bilateral cooperation, Azuru Corridor and the Kabul process came up for discussion at the meeting, the statement said.
