Iran finds new source of food import in Kazakh region (Exclusive)

Kazakhstan's Kyzylorda region expands trade cooperation with Iran, a source in the executive body (akimat) of the region told Trend.

"Business ties between Kazakhstan and Iran continue to grow stronger. The work of Kazakh entrepreneurs with the business community of Iran has been intensified. The entrepreneurs of Kyzylorda region has already visited Iran's agro-industrial complex and signed memorandum's on cooperation," the source said.

One of the priority areas of production of the region is rice production, according to the source.

Kazakhstan's Kyzylorda region produces more than 500,000 tons of rice per year and consumes only 5 percent from the total amount the produced rice, which leads to search of potential export markets, one of which is the Islamic Republic.

"In addition, a pilot party of the Iranian "Torem Hoshemi" rice variety was seeded this year in Kyzylorda. The contract on supplies of Kazakh rice to Iran was signed in November during "Baikonur-Invest" forum," the sources added.

The most scarce commodity groups in the region include dairy products, meat, eggs, potatoes, flour products and vegetables, and this area may be used by the Iranian investors, according to the source.
