QIIB officials brief visiting Voltaire School students on Islamic banking practices

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar International Islamic Bank (QIIB) recently welcomed a group of visiting students from Voltaire School.
The initiative came as part of the bank's corporate social responsibility, QIIB said in a press statement. At QIIB, the students became familiar with all aspects of Islamic banking, banking services and techniques used by banks in their operations.
QIIB chief executive officer Dr Abdulbasit Ahmad al-Shaibei and a number of the bank's executive officers welcomed the students and provided them with insights into Islamic banking, relevant principles and details about the establishment of QIIB, and how the bank emerged as one of the top destinations for Islamic banking in Qatar and the world, the statement noted.
He pointed out that the bank always welcomes students, and has the pleasure to share with them its experiences in Islamic banking, so that their knowledge will be enriched.
This will also help the schools concerned in determining the students' choice of career in future and prepare them for the job market in different fields, including banking.
Based on its strategy, which focuses on serving the society, QIIB gives great attention to supporting education in various ways, Dr al-Shaibei emphasised.
These include supporting the projects and events of schools and other educational institutions, and also through summer internships, in addition to sponsoring some university students in Qatar or abroad.
During their visit to QIIB, the students had a tour of the banking services hall, the section that deals with high net worth customers on Grand Hamad Street, and the departments of information service and international management.
Zakaria Jallawi, QIIB head — Retail Sector, and other managers explained to them the services and products offered by QIIB, the types of accounts, the way of opening a bank account, bank cards and details about the customer service and related tasks, along with the IT techniques used in banks, various banking programmes, functioning of ATMs, and other technical matters.
Following the tour, an interactive session was organised between QIIB executives and the students, during which students' questions and enquiries about QIIB, Islamic banking, the difference between Shariah-based banking and conventional banking, and the eligibility conditions of a QIIB employee in particular were answered.
At the end of the visit, the school supervisors and students thanked QIIB for the opportunity, which strengthened their practical experience.
