Pakistan- PM approves Ishaq Dar's leave application

(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR, 23 November: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has accepted Finance Minister Ishaq Dar's request to be relieved of his duties.

Media reports said Ishaq Dar was relieved of his portfolio in the Finance Ministry and has been informed of the decision. The prime minister took the decision after discussing the contents of Mr Dar's letter with former prime minister and PML-N president Nawaz Sharif. Presently, three-month leave to Mr Dar has been granted, and he would remain a federal minister.

An official notification stated that the premier is "pleased to allow leave of absence to Mr Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs, with immediate effect in terms of sub-section (1) of section of Federal Ministers and Ministers for State Salaries, Allowances and Privileges Act 1975".

Mr Dar went to London last month seeking medical treatment. He stated in his letter to the PM that he wishes to seek relief from looking after the three divisions that he has been heading for four years.

Mr Dar is facing a case of assets beyond known sources of income in Pakistan and a court has also declared him absconder. In such a scenario, he is unlikely to return to Pakistan anytime soon.
