Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 20

Trend:

It is very important to hold discussions to find a way to solve the crisis caused by dangerous trends such as international terrorism and ethnic separatism in the Mediterranean, which connects the EU, North Africa, the Middle East and Southeastern Europe, said Azerbaijani President's Aide for Public and Political Affairs Ali Hasanov at an international forum titled 'The Threats of Separatism to International Peace and Security' in Brussels on Nov. 20.

The event, held with the organizational support of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with the Diaspora and the Congress of European Azerbaijanis, is also attended by representatives of the Azerbaijani embassy in Belgium, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with the Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov, heads of Azerbaijan's diaspora organizations in Europe, as well as many international experts, political figures, former presidents, prime ministers and others.

Addressing the event, Hasanov noted that more than 20 conflicts that have broken out as a result of ethnic separatism are now proceeding in the form of military confrontation.

Ethnic conflicts have covered almost a major part of the world, said the Azerbaijani top official.

'We all are concerned over the difficulties in addressing refugee and migrant problems, human trafficking and smuggling, and threats to political and economic stability, transportation and energy security,' said Hasanov. "Observations show that ethnic separatism and its negative manifestations have a special place among these threats."
