Donald Tusk quest for unity in EU

(MENAFN) Donald Tusk, European Council President declared the probably defeat in Brexit negotiations in case of failing in maintaining unity. It was believed by the ex-Polish prime minister that the departure of UK was the EU's "toughest stress test". He also told MEPS that "If we fail it then the negotiations will end in our defeat."

At the end of March 2019, UK is scheduled to depart the EU. However, both parties have decided to stay clear of discussions related to victory and defeat, that is until Mr. Tusk's remarks of the matter.

Mr. Tusk announced his desire of maintaining unity among the other 27 members, as was informed after Brussels summit last week where a discussion of Brexit process was held.

It was said by Mr. Tusk that "we must keep our unity regardless of the direction of the talks, the EU will be able to rise to every scenario as long as we are not divided". He also informed MEPS "if we fail it then the negotiations will end in our defeat". Mr. Tusk further added "It is in fact up to London how this will end: with a good deal, no deal or no Brexit. But in each of these scenarios we will protect our common interest only by being together."
