AWU headquarters raided by AFP

(MENAFN) On Tuesday evening, the AWU headquarters in Sydney and Melbourne was invaded by the Federal Police officers of Australia. It is declared by the Australian Workers Union that the raid was merely an effort to smear Bill Shorten, the Labor leader.

The AFP had released a statement on Tuesday which assured that the raids "are in support of an ongoing investigation being conducted by the Registered Organisations Commission."

The occurrence of the raid happened -when Mr. Shorten was in charge of the AWU- after the federal government requested an investigation related to a donation of union funds given to "GetUp!" an activist group.

AWU national secretary Daniel Walton had released a statement to AAP saying "It is clear the Registered Organisations Commission has been established, not to promote good governance, but to use taxpayer and police resources to muckrake through historic documents in an attempt to find anything that might smear a future Labor prime minister."
