Acidic oceans endanger sea life

(MENAFN) The oceans are becoming more and more intoxicated by modern society's carbon dioxide emissions, it is said that this toxicity will affect all living thing in the sea. Infant sea creatures are even more threatened by this based on an eight-year study by at least 250 scientists.

An estimation was calculated by BIOACID project led from Germany, it explained that based on today's numbers, quantities of baby cod reaching adulthood might drop by a quarter or a 12th.

However, it is assumed by The Biological Impacts of Ocean Acidification report that the chemical changes occurring may actually be beneficial for some creatures, although ultimately affected by the food web shifts.

As CO2 from fossil fuels dissolves in seawater, it produces carbonic acid and this lowers the pH of the water, which is how this event of ocean acidification is occurring. However, this is not all, for studies had shown that the matter will become even worse by various issues, including pollution, climate change, coastal development and more.
