Opioid epidemic opened the door for financial conflict

(MENAFN) The Opioid epidemic raised a red flag on both a national emergency level and a financial level. Few advocates and lawmakers have made it clear that an emergency declaration will not be of great help unless federal funds are provided to counterattack the lethal epidemic.

When the question was raised about the amount of money needed, a response by an advocate stated that countless people are meeting their demise annually. Andrew Kessler, founder and chief of Slingshot Solutions -behavioral health policy consulting firm- said "So the math is almost incalculable."

Kessler also stated "If you're going to say it's an emergency, and you're going to say we need funding, than it's got to be comparable to other emergencies."

So far, it is yet to be clear whether funds will be offered in case of an emergency declaration. At any rate, receiving financial support from Congress has always been a slow process.
