Qatar- Over 20 projects by Ashghal for Al Shamal and Ruwais under way

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is implementing more than 20 projects to serve Al Shamal City and Ruwais. These projects, with a total budget of over QR2.2bn, will be completed in 2022.

Dr Saad bin Ahmed Al Mohannadi, Chairman of the Public Works Authority revealed in a meeting, held with the community leaders and residents of Al Shamal City at Al Shamal Sports Club, in presence of a number of directors and officials of Ashghal and municipalities, that the integrated plan of Ashghal includes 20 different projects.

The projects include development of roads, infrastructure, sewage and buildings in Al Shamal city and Al Ruwais to serve about 3,600 plots of land, including completed projects worth QR 1.4bn.

Furthermore, the plan consist a number of new projects with value of QR850m, including the project of Al Shamal city's health and wellness center which contract for its construction was signed at the signed during the meeting the with Al Jaber Trading and Contracting Company with cost of QR144 mn.

The contract was signed by the Chairman of the Public Works Authority, Dr Saad Al Mohannadi and Mohammed Sultan Al Jaber, Chairman of Al Jaber Group.

Commenting on the event Dr Al Mohannadi thanked Al-Shamal Municipality and all concerned bodies for facilitating the meaningful meeting, which reflects the keenness of the governmental bodies and institutions in the state to coordinate and cooperate with each other to support the implementation of various projects and achieve the best for this country.

Such meetings are essential to meet citizen's needs and find solutions to their demands, listen to their proposals and desire, which Ashghal authority carefully studies to take them into account when it develops projects and provide with services.

For his part, Engineer Saud Al Tamimi, Director of Road Projects, reviewed infrastructure projects that going to be implemented in the area. The plan includes the development of roads and infrastructure aiming to rehabilitate the existing local and interior roads with length of 73km.

In addition to establishment of a new sewage network with length of 91 km and construction of 12 intersections, 28 km of sidewalks and 8,000 parking spaces, installation of about 3,680 lighting poles, and 1,000 signing boards in the area Al Tamim were outlined.

He also pointed out that these projects will be completed in the third quarter of 2019. More projects include construction of roads such as the road leading to the pisciculture project of prawn fish farming at the west of Al Shamal city, Huwailah road to link the area of Hawailah with the Al Shamal street and the road leading to the complex of animal farms in Al Shamal he added. There are also a number of service roads serving schools, truck parking, labour camps that will be built, he further explained.

Al Tamimi noted that the sanitation projects in Al Shamal city and Ruwais, includes construction of a sewage pumping station with a capacity of 95 liters per second, and sewage treatment plant of Al Shamal city.

Engineer Mohsen Al Rashid, Director of Building Projects at Ashghal, reviewed the plan for building projects in Al Shamal and Al Ruwais. The most important of these is the health and wellness center, which covers a total area of about 25,000 sqm and different sections and facilities.

He pointed out that the center includes about 315 shaded parking spaces. The project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020, he added.

Engineer Al Rashid, also highlighted the plan for buildings which included construction of several six educational projects within the city of Al Shamal, including four schools and nurseries.
