Oman- Sultanate to support Tanzanian economy through investments in different sectors


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Oman has pledged its support for the development of the Tanzanian economy with investments in manufacturing, energy production, mining and oil and gas industry.

A delegation headed by H E Mohammed bin Hamad al Rumhi, Minister for Oil and Gas and accompanied by Dr Salem ben Nasser al Ismaily, chairman of Ithraa, Oman's inward investment and export development agency, H E Maitha al Mahrouqi, among other dignitaries are visiting Tanzania and other African nations aboard the Royal Ship Fulk al Salamah, following the Royal Directives to revive the Omani maritime heritage.

The details were released in a statement by the Directorate of Presidential Communications at State House in the commercial capital Dar es Salaam during talks with Tanzanian President Dr John Magufuli. Tanzania is expected to get expertise on the development of natural gas and Oman has pledged to set up a fertiliser factory at the Bagamoyo SEZ in addition to food processing industries.

'Oman is keen to develop the Bagamoyo Special Economic Zone into a bustling investment area. We plan to establish a factory to produce fertiliser. Plans are also afoot to set up food processing plants. We will be buying food crops from farmers, process them for value addition before exporting the produce,' H E Dr Rumhi said.

President Dr Magufuli thanked Oman for sending the delegation and said the government of Tanzania was committed to further historical relations with Oman. He also guaranteed the support of the Tanzanian government in undertaking investments, stating that he would be pleased to have the projects undertaken in the shortest time possible.

Dr Magufuli reached out to Oman to cement relations in tourism and air transport as well as meat and fish processing factories, calling for sharing of experience in various areas including teachers for Kiswahili and Arabic.
