Robert Mugabe to act as the new WHO goodwill ambassador

(MENAFN) President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe has undertaken many international sanctions as a result of human rights violations in his government. Even so, he was chosen as a goodwill ambassador by the new director general of The World Health Organization (WHO).

During a conference, Tedros Ghebreyesus, WHO director general stated that President Mugabe settled on the position in order to contribute in tacking chronic diseases.

The first African director general to become WHO's director general, Mr. Tedros, has informed delegates in Uruguay that the purpose of the president accepting the role was to "influence his peers in his region."

Mr. Tedros demonstrated in his speech that Zimbabwe is "a country that places universal health coverage and health promotion at the centre of its policies to provide health care to all."
