Kuwait supports initiatives for unified Arab environmental approach

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Oct 19 (KUNA) -- Chairman and Director General of Kuwait's Environment Public Authority (EPA) Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Sabah affirmed on Thursday Kuwait's support for initiatives aimed reaching a joint Arab approach for tackling environmental issues.

Sheikh Abdullah, in a statement at end of the 29th session of the Council of Arab Ministers responsible for environment affairs, said the conferees focused on studying means for sustainable development, relevant international treaties and reaching joint views on these accords.

Sheikh Abdullah said the Kuwaiti delegation during the session noted that Kuwait had inked the statue of the "Arab environmental agency," and established environmental welfare associations, including two that function under EPA's umbrella.

Kuwait has made headways on the path to achieve "environmental governance," he said, noting that EPA's strategy is in harmony with the state sustainable development plans. (pickup previous) mfm.rk
