Over 2,000 facts of illicit drug trafficking identified in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijani law-enforcement bodies identified 2,373 facts related to illicit drug trafficking in January-September 2017, reads a report prepared by the State Commission's working group for combating drug addiction and illicit drug trafficking.

Of the total amount of seized drugs, psychotropic substances and their precursors, more than 599 kilograms accounted for marijuana, about 174 kilograms accounted for opium, more than 180 kilograms – for heroin and over 5.5 kilograms accounted for cannabis.

The report says that 1,955 people were held criminally liable for offences in this sphere, four of them being minors, 154 – persons aged 18 to 25, 281 – aged 26 to 29 and 1,516 – aged over 30. Of the total number of detainees, 1,926 were men and 29 were women. Thirty-six detainees were foreign nationals.
