(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar University (QU) achieved seventh place in the QS Arab Region University Rankings 2018, it was announced yesterday.
QU is among the 100 top universities in the Middle East, Asia and Mena
regions, improving by two places on its 2017 performance and by four
places on its 2016 performance.
For the 2018 edition, 150 universities from 16 countries were evaluated.
The QS University Rankings for the Arab region differ from the global
ranking. They are developed with the aim to reflect specific challenges
and priorities for institutions in the region.
They include nine criteria: academic reputation (30%), employer
reputation (20%), faculty-student ratio (20%), web impact (10%),
proportion of staff with PhD (5%), citations per paper from Scopus (5%),
papers per faculty from Scopus (5%), proportion of international
faculty (2.5%) and proportion of international students (2.5%).
QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham said: 'We are proud of this achievement
that reflects QU's progress in rankings. For the third consecutive
year, QU continues to advance in its positioning among the top
universities.
QU chief strategy and development officer Dr Darwish al-Emadi said: 'QU
plays a key role in fulfilling Qatar's aspirations towards a
knowledge-based economy, and in providing the local and international
labour market with distinguished graduates who will contribute to the
country's growth.
