UAE- Ras Al Khaimah residents to pay for sewage from next year

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Residents of Ras Al Khaimah will have to pay for sewage facilities from the beginning of next year, according to authorities.

The sewage bills are to be calculated as per water consumption, according to Ahmad Mohammed Al Hammadi, director-general of the department of public services, RAK. "Every consumer is to pay additional 50 per cent of their water consumption against the sewage bill which is to be added to the monthly bill of the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (Fewa)."

The new system is to be gradually enforced on all subscribers of the sewage network, he added.

"Up to 20,000 houses have been connected to the sewage network across the emirate whereas Fewa has up to 85,000 subscribers all over the emirate."

The department will adopt a single bill system for registered consumers in the coming years, Al Hammadi stated. "Consumers can easily pay for all the consumption against one bill. It will prevent financial burdens and fines."

The department, in August, had started connecting houses and entities at the Muairidh area with the new sewage network. Up to 565 plots of land will be connected with the sewage network by June 2018, Al Hammadi said. "The project will help secure proper sewage system instead of the regular smelly and risky sewage tankers."

The department is currently developing the Filya sewage treatment plant against Dh65 million, he said. "The project, to be completed in November this year, will boost the capacity of the sewage system in the emirate from daily 20,000 to 40,000 cubic metres."
