France: Fines Issued for catcalling and sexual harassment

(MENAFN) The government confirmed yesterday a new sexism & sexual abuse law to be issued next year. The act of men catcalling or violently harassing women shall face fines.

Women across France shared harassment experiences in their workplaces on Twitter, thus leading to the decision. The country's gender equality minister (Marlene Schiappa, 34), stated that workshops are to be held in order to discuss the bill of the fine.

President Emmanuel Macron announced his desire to deal with the behavior of misogynistic males in public, by sending contingents of community police to implement the new law.

Schiappa informed RTL radio: "It's completely necessary because at the moment street harassment is not defined in the law."
