Qatar Fund holds workshop to support Syria health sector

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Fund for Development organised yesterday a workshop to support the health sector in Syria, in co-operation and co-ordination with a group of international organisations concerned with development, humanitarian and relief work. The two-day workshop aims to enhance local expertise by engaging them with relevant international organisations, and reviewing the best mechanisms for studying and implementing health sector programmes within Syria and neighbouring countries hosting Syrian refugees (Jordan, Iraq, Turkey, Lebanon).
The workshop was attended by a number of Qatari and international organisations and institutions, including the Qatar Red Crescent, Qatar Charity, OCHA, UNHCR, UNDP and WHO, in addition to a delegation representing Unicef. Commenting on the occasion, Masfar al-Shahwani, Executive Director of Development Projects Management at the Qatar Fund for Development noted Qatar's efforts in responding to humanitarian crises and disasters, and supporting and strengthening partnerships with national and international actors, UN institutions and civil society organisations.
Since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis, Qatar has not hesitated to help the Syrian brethren in their protracted plight by providing all kinds of support including basic needs in various fields, especially healthcare. Qatar topped the 2017 list of major donors for the United Nations Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). Qatar ranked third and is seeking to complete its co-operation in the coming years and its support for the development programmes and initiatives launched by OCHA.
