Porsche Carrera Cup: Al Faisal finishes 12th in first race at Hockenheim

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Oman's Al Faisal al Zubair had a satisfactory debut in the German city of Hockenheim when he finished 12th among 25 entrants in the first of the two races in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany on Saturday.

The teenager acclimatised well to the pace of a frenetic race held in dry conditions to finish a place lower from a P11 start. 'The race was good. We started in P11 and I finished in 12th place on used tyres,' said FZ Racing's Al Faisal.

'I am happy to finish 12th among 25 drivers on my debut.'

'Friday's practice session was the only time I got to learn the track. It was quite hard to manage the used tyres in the race but, at least, we will be on new tyres on Sunday and I will benefit from the advantage that some of the other drivers had in race one,' said Al Faisal.

Christian Engelhart of the Black Falcon won the race while Konrad Motorsport's Dennis Olsen came second but did enough to clinch the title with a race to spare.

In Friday morning's training session Al Faisal had run for 27 laps and slotted into 12th place with a best lap of 1min 43.391sec.

Qualifying took place late on Friday afternoon and Al Faisal recorded a best time of 1min 42.393sec for 11th on grid start. Al Faisal will start the second race on Sunday at 13th place.
