AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah II, His Royal Highness Prince Hashem Bin Al Hussein, chief chamberlain, attended a celebration on the occasion of the Hijra New Year that was organized by the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs on Wednesday at the King Abdullah Mosque in Amman.

In a speech during the ceremony, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Wael Arabiyat said Hijra, the migration or journey of the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) and his followers from Makkah to Madinah, is the salvation from self-desires and fully succumbing to God Almighty, rising above personal interests and putting the collective interest ahead of the individual interest.

He stressed the importance of learning from the valuable lessons of Hijra, achieving reforms and defending our homelands from the enemies of the nation and Khawarij (outlaws).

The Grand Mufti of Jordan Mohammad Khalayleh also stressed the need to learn from the lessons of Hijra to achieve a better future for the Islamic nation.
