Berlin: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and German Chancellor Dr Angela Merkel held a meeting where they discussed regional and international developments, especially the Gulf crisis and efforts being made to contain and resolve it through dialogue and diplomatic means as well as through the mediation of Kuwait.
The meeting, which was held at the Federal Chancellery today, discussed the situation in the Middle East, especially in Syria, Yemen and Libya, in addition to the joint efforts of the two countries in the fight against terrorism and extremism, and to eliminate this phenomenon that threatens the security of the world, within the framework of regional and international efforts to combat all its forms and sources of funding.
It also reviewed the strategic relations between the two friendly countries and the prospects of enhancing them in various fields to achieve the aspirations of the two countries. In this regard, the two sides discussed aspects of joint cooperation and ways of developing them in the fields of economy, investment, energy, industry and others.
The meeting was attended by Their Excellencies members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Emir, while from German side it was attended by a number of Their Excellencies ministers and senior officials.
Earlier yesterday the Emir met President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara and discussed the latest developments in the Gulf crisis and ways to solve it through diplomatic channels. The two leaders also discussed the most prominent regional and international events and exchange views on them.
The Emir will also visit Paris, the French capital, where he will meet with President Emmanuel Macron to discuss with him ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two friendly countries, in addition to the Gulf crisis and issues of common concern.
