Afghanistan- 'Some parts of Mirza Olang retaken'

(MENAFN- Afghanistan Times) AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The brave Afghan security forces have recaptured the Sheram and Kalta Taw areas of Mirza Olang village in northern Sar-e-Pul province, an official said on Monday.

Governor Mohammad Zahir Wahdat told Pajhwok Afghan News the security forces conducted a predawn operation for regaining of the valley. He added there are zero casualties on the part of security forces.

Mirza Olang was fallen to militants on August 4 when 50 civilians were ruthlessly killed. However the area was retaken by Afghan forces on August 14.

Between 3 and 5 August in Mirza Olang village, civilians were deliberately killed by terrorists. The deliberate massacre of civilians and persons who are taking no direct part in hostilities constitutes serious violations of international humanitarian law and may amount to war crimes.

Reacting to the massacre of civilians in Mirza Olang district, Afghans across the country and UNAMA urged the government of Afghanistan to ensure accountability for the perpetrators. Even President Ashraf Ghani has vowed to avenge the blood of innocent women and children. Now dead bodies have been exhumed and recovered from mass grave sites and other locations without any forensic or related investigative procedures to be conducted. Time has arrived for Afghan government and its international allies to launch decisive operation against all terrorist outfits across the country.
