Second dengue case identified in same Kowloon district

A 25-year-old Hong Kong woman who lives in Prince Edward, Kowloon, was confirmed on Wednesday as the second local case of dengue fever this year.

According to a of the Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health, although the woman had traveled to Vietnam, which has suffered from many dengue-fever cases since July, hers was classified as a locally acquired infection as she lives in the same district as the first patient who was identified on Monday.

The woman had developed fever, headache, muscle pain, retro-orbital pain and skin rash by August 2 before visiting various doctors from August 3 to this Tuesday. She was then sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital and is now in stable condition.

Apple Daily reported that the woman lived in an apartment at Man Hing House on Boundary Street in Prince Edward, while the first patient lived on Cedar Street, just a four-minute walk away.

The health center said any person who had been to the vicinity of Boundary Street in Prince Edward and was experiencing dengue-fever symptoms should call the center immediately.
