Qatari cagers bag bronze at FIBA 3x3 U18 Asia Cup

The Qatari youth basketball team won the third place of the 2017 FIBA 3x3 U18 Asia Cup at the Gem-In shopping mall in Cyberjaya, Malaysia on Sunday.
Qatari team defeated Lebanon 21-16 in the third place play-off after going down fighting to China in the semi-final.
China eventually went on to win the title when they overcame Chinese Taipei in the final.
The former U18 Asia Cup Champions and U18 World Cup winners, Qatar beat Lebanon (21-9) and Bahrain (21-8) during the pool stage to make their way to the last eight, where they knocked out Philippines (20-17).
The Qatari squad consisted of Al Haj Dodo, Al Haj Saeed, Nabil Abu Essa and Assem Waleed.
Chinese sharpshooter Hoanan Li was named Most Valuable Player of the competition while Lebanese player Nady Hachem topped led all scorers. Qatar's Abu Essa joined the duo in the Team of the Tournament.
In the women's segment, Indonesia struck gold to win their country's first major 3x3 title.
The women's champions lost their opening game in the pool phase but went on to win their next four, including a dominating performance in the final against the Malaysian hosts (13-6).
China defeated Singapore in a hard-fought battle for the bronze medal (17-14).
The event - hosted by FIBA in cooperation with the Malaysian Basketball Association (MABA) and organised by NBL Asia - featured 32 teams from 17 Asian countries.
