Drunk businessman tries to rape woman in Dubai

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The accused is facing charges including attempted rape, physical assault and consuming alcohol without a license. A Pakistani businessman has been charged in court with attempted rape of a countrywoman in his flat after dragging her inside by force.

The Court of First Instance was told the 40-year-old man had some financial disputes with the complainant.

On December 29, 2016, he came across her around 6:30am in the corridor of the building where she lived in Al Nahda, Al Qusais. He dragged her by force into the lift where he slapped her and then made her go with him to his place. He tried hard to rape her as he was under the influence of alcohol but to no avail. While he felt tired and left the room she called her friend who came to her rescue.

He faced charges including attempted rape, physical assault and consuming alcohol without a license.

The complainant, holder of a visit visa, said she had met the accused on Facebook about four months earlier. "I owned a beauty salon back home and I came to Dubai to open one but I could not. I had given the defendant several amounts of money to help me but he took the money and did not keep his promise."

She told the prosecutor she did wrong by trusting the accused so much and not asking him for receipts. "He would stall whenever I claim my money back and eventually started to hang up on me when I told him I would resort to the police.

"I had to leave the hotel because I could not afford to pay any longer. I relocated to the same building where the accused stayed after he found me a shared accommodation," she said.

She added: "I was coming back from the supermarket around 6:30am when I met him in the corridor. He was apparently drunk. He dragged me by force to his flat in the first floor."

She saw several men sitting in his place laughing and having beer. "They laughed when he told them I was the one who would complain against him."

He then took her to his room where he tried hard to rape her after taking off part of her clothes. "He kept saying he would rape me and ruin my life. After some time, he got exhausted and left me in the room. I called my friend and gave him the address."

The police arrived and arrested the defendant down the building.

The woman's Pakistani friend said he was the one who introduced her to the defendant, his ex-business partner. "She had told me he owed her Dh7,000. Right after her call in the early morning, I went to the defendant's flat. His friends tried to stop me but ran away when I called the police. She was crying with scratches on her neck and her face looked red, which suggested she was beaten."

A police corporal said the accused looked drunk at the time of his arrest.
