Mohamed bin Zayed visits Mohammed Khalaf Majlis in Abu Dhabi's Al Karama

ABU DHABI, 28th May 2017 (WAM) - His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces visited this evening the new Mohammed Khalaf Majlis, which opened recently in front of the resident of the late Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei in Al Karama area of Abu Dhabi.

Sheikh Mohamed was accompanied by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region, H.H. Sheikh Nahyan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation, H.H. Sheikh Hamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chief of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court , Sheikhs and senior officials.

The new Majlis was created under Sheikh Mohamed's directives, in appreciation of the services the late Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei offered to his country in the areas of culture and heritage.

Sheikh Mohamed exchanged Ramadan greetings with the family members of the late Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei and with poets, writers, intellectuals attending the Majlis.

A number of poets recited elegies composed in praise of the late Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei.

Major General Faris Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Festivals, Cultural and Heritage Programmes Committee, expressed thanks and appreciation to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

He also lauded the leadership's directives to name a Majlis after the late Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, to award him with the Abu Dhabi Award in 2015 and to name a main street in Al Dhafra Region after him.

Faris Al Mazrouei emphasised the vital role played by the Majlis culture in strengthening national identity, sharing positive initiatives, confronting challenges and alien phenomena, motivating new generations to safeguard heritage and traditions, promoting the spirit of tolerance amity and upholding the principles adopted by the late Sheikh Zayed bin sultan Al Nahyan.

The late Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei was known for his obsession with culture and heritage. Before his sad demise, he served as advisor in cultural and heritage affairs at the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince's Court, board member of the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority and chaired the Festivals, Cultural and Heritage Programmes Committee which manages many cultural events, including the Million's Poet, the Prince of Poets, the cultural activities. His efforts also led to publishing of several cultural magazines and launching of the Baynounah TV.

He graduated from the UAE University with a Bachelor of Public Administration. He also held a Master's degree from the University of Portland, Oregon in the United States.
