(MENAFN- Daily Outlook Afghanistan) KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani says he is still awaiting the implementation of the commitments Pakistan made five months ago to help end the conflict in the country.
In an interview with a Pan-Arab daily, Ghani alleged many terrorists were hiding in Pakistan and collecting funds there, but concrete action against the extremists was yet to be taken.
He told Asharq al-Awsat newspaper over a million Afghani citizens had started returning to their country from Pakistan and Iran. The Afghans were driving al-Qaeda and ISIS fighters from their areas, he added.
About the Arab-Islamic-US summit, the president said it was the first major step towards regaining the glory of Islam as an international civilisation based on science, peace and tolerance.
'We are the leaders of the Islamic world and we have the conviction and courage to express the aspirations and values of our people, the president remarked.
Stressing the need for a unified definition of terrorism, he also underlined the importance of creating a mechanism and team work to halt terrorist funding.
A war was going on, not a media war, but Pakistan was unaware of it, he said, adding: 'We want peace between the two countries. He also referred to the killing of al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad.
He blamed the Taliban for the terrorist attack on a mosque on a military base Mazar-i-Sharif, where 140 Afghani soldiers were killed. 'Taliban are settled in Pakistan and are gathering money there.
Ghani hoped Pakistan would give his administration the names of the terrorists involved in the attack that killed the ambassador of the UAE and others in Kandahar City.
The reconciliation drive was making headway, the president claimed, saying Gulbadin Hekmatyar had returned and accepted Afghani laws and more than a million Afghans had come back from Pakistan and Iran.
President Ghani addressed Taliban saying if they choose to make peace, they will achieve what they want through politics and law. He hoped Taliban would distance itself from terrorists. (Pajhwok)
