Qatar Shooting and Archery Association (QSAA) yesterday honoured five shooters who bagged medals at the Islamic Solidarity Games held in Baku.
The medal winners were felicitated by QSAA President Ali Mohammed Al Kuwari in the presence of Majed Al Naimi, General Secretary of the QSAA.
Those honoured at the ceremony held yesterday at the Losail shooting Range included gold medallist Aldana Saad Al Mubarak (25m pistol), silver medal winner Ahmed Zayed Al Shammari (Men's 25m Standard Pistol) and bronze medal winners Kholoud Hassan Al Khalaf (Women's Trap and Mixed Trap Team), Mohammed Khejaim (Mixed Trap Team) and Nasser Ali Al Hemaidi (Men's Trap).
Al Kuwari said he was delighted with the rich medal haul the sharp shooters brought home from the Azerbaijani capital.
'When we went to Baku (Games) we had targeted 10 medals from the Games. We were very happy that Qatar's first five medals came from shooting. Four of our shooters were unlucky as they qualified for the finals but finished fourth. In that way we were unlucky, but we are happy with what we managed to get in the end, Al Kuwari said while speaking to journalists.
He urged the shooters to continue the good performance in the years to come with Tokyo 2020 Olympics as a target for more medals.
'We have no limits. Our goal is to go to Tokyo 2020 and win medals for Qatar. So, that is part of our plan which we have set into motion, Al Kuwari said.
At Baku Games, Qatar finished with 12 medals out of which five came from shooting while the remaining medals came from tennis, athletics and gymnastics.
