TUNIS, May 23 (KUNA) -- The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) has signed an initial loan agreement worth KD 24 million (USD 79 million) with Tunisia's Ministry of Development, Investment and International Cooperation (TIDAD) for the construction of four hospitals.
On the sidelines of a signing ceremony, head of KFAED's delegation Tareq Al-Munayyes told KUNA in a statement Tuesday that the loan makes up 78 percent of the project's total cost.
The four hospitals will be established in the governorates of Siliana, Jendouba, Sidi Bouzid and Kairouan, he said, indicating that the delegation paid a visit to the sites where hospitals will be founded.
It is the 39th loan provided by KFAED to Tunisia, and the visit comes to honor Kuwait's pledges made during the international conference in support of economic, social and sustainable development in Tunisia, TUNISIA 2020, last November.
Kuwait at the conference announced that it would finance development projects with a total of USD 500 million in the next five years.
The fund's delegation held talks with Tunisia's health and development ministers as well as some senior officials on the project, Al-Munayes noted.
He said the 'visit and talks with Tunisian officials were fruitful,' revealing that the fund considers financing some ther development projects in several fields.
There has been cooperation between the two sides for more than 50 years, he pointed out. (end) khs.hm
