QSF events galore for over 70 days


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The region's residents will have more than 70 days of entertainment and retail and hospitality offerings in the 4th Qatar Summer Festival (QSF 2017), to be held from June 22 to September 5, it was announced yesterday.
Officials of the Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA), Qatar Chamber and QSports hoped QSF 2017, under the theme 'Colour your Summer and running from Eid al-Fitr through to Eid al-Adha, would draw a large number of visitors to different venues in Doha and neighbourhoods, both from within the country and outside.
QTA's director of Festivals and Tourism Events Mashal Shahbik said 'the incidence of both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha during the summer months this time has created a perfect opportunity for the QTA to merge the Eid celebrations in Qatar and QSF 2017 into a continuous, more than two-month-long festival.
'Besides an extended QSF, the visitors and tourists will also have many more things to choose from entertainment, shopping discounts and hotel offers, she explained.
'One of the major attractions of this year's festival is the active participation of the private sector, she said while stressing that the private sector is delivering the festival this time with the active guidance and support of the QTA.
Shahbik said some of the malls, hotels and destination management companies will provide entertainment events and offer special packages while the QSF centrepiece, the Summer Entertainment City, will be delivered by local events management company QSports.
The QTA official also recalled the active involvement of the private sector in making the inaugural Shop Qatar and 8th Qatar International Food Festival resounding successes.
Qatar Chamber director general Saleh bin Hamad al-Sharqi said the chamber is supporting festivals like the QSF as it would help the country's tourist sector to prosper. 'The chamber is also keen to enhance its strategic partnership with the QTA to support and develop the tourist sector in addition to directing the Qatari private sector to enhance its investment on the tourism side.
QSports deputy chairman Ghanim al-Mohannadi and head of Technical Support Hamad al-Khaja also gave an account of the activities that are going to be part of the QSF.
