Cathay Pacific flight cancelled due to fuel leak

(MENAFN- Asia Times) A Cathay Pacific flight from Hong Kong to Nagoya was cancelled on Monday after pilots discovered a fuel leak shortly before takeoff.

CX532 carrying 191 passengers was preparing for takeoff around 4.30pm when the fault was spotted and the plane had to return to the apron, Sing Tao Daily reported. Passengers had to take another flight at 7:30pm, Apple Daily said. Cathay Pacific apologized for the incident.

The airline earlier on Monday announced plans to cut 600 staff in Hong Kong, the biggest reduction since the former British colony was handed over to China in 1997. The sackings included about 18% of support staff and about a quarter of the middle and senior managers. Frontline staff such as pilots and cabin crew would not be affected, it said.
