(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): United States President Donald Trump has appreciated Afghan security forces' sacrifices, saying Washington and its allies stand firmly behind Kabul in the global war on terrorism.
Trump assured Afghanistan of solid support during his speech to the Arab Islamic American Summit attended by leaders from 55 Muslim countries in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Most of his remarks were about Muslim countries' participation in the war on terror, need for tolerance between different religions, the ongoing complex situation in the Middle East and Iran's interference.
He praised Afghan security forces for fighting against the Taliban and defending their country, saying America and its allies would stand with Afghanistan in the war on terrorism.
He also appreciated the role of some Muslim countries in the battle against extremism. Trump cited Saudi Arabia as an example, saying the oil-rich kingdom was the reason why he had embarked on his first foreign trip to the 'holy land'.
Islam is a great religion, but most of victims of extremism are Muslims across the world, according to the president, who said: 'We aren't here to discuss how to live or how to worship. We have gathered here to join hands for achieving common goals...'
Trump made clear stressed the ongoing fight against terrorism was not a battle among religions, beliefs and civilizations. He said it was a struggle against 'criminals that destroy human lives; it is a fight between bad and good.'
He urged Muslim-majority countries to do more to eradicate terrorist groups that claim the mantle of Islam. "Drive them out. Drive out the terrorists. Drive out the extremists. Drive them out of your places of worship. Drive them out of your communities. Drive them out of your holy land and drive them out of this Earth."
