Taliban attack on Maimana beaten back


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Taliban attack on Maimana, the capital of northwestern Faryab province, has been repulsed effectively by security forces, an official said on Tuesday.

Governor Syed Anwar Sadaat said: €œSome Taliban on Monday night launched attacks from first, eighth and ninth municipality district sides aimed at killing of innocent people and spreading horror and fear but security forces with the help of local forces beaten back the Taliban attack after half an hour clash.€

Sadaat said security forces and civilians suffered no harm in the attack and there was no credible report of Taliban causalities.

He said a large number of the Taliban were besieged in the Sar Howza area of Pashtonkot district from the past two weeks while over 50 Taliban were killed and wounded in the Balcharagh district.

The Taliban attack on Maimana happened follow growing pressure on the group in Sarwhawza, but their attempt was failed.
