Training project for technical professions in the entertainment and audiovisual sector in Mali / West Africa

About the project

Because it all starts with a little story!

On December 3, 2009, it is 4 pm at the Moffou in Bamako. We have just finished the Sound engineer training given in twelve days by Vivendi. Salif Keita, Karim Sai and Laurent Bizot are there. The event is special! In few moment, we will be six to be honored. Nicely dressed, we are impatient! Stressed! The enthusiasm of a new world that is emerging. A hope to make of our passion - sound - our professional careers.

In few minutes, we will be interviewed by the press, photographed. A technical concern of last minute. Something goes wrong with an enclosure. The opportunity to put into practice what we have learned. Everything is now ok. A small speech of the context and we parade one after the other to receive from the hands of Salif Keita our 101 of Pro Tools Certifications, a software of recording.

Why this mobilization and this media scope for a certification discount?

Because in spite of its musical and artistic richness known internationally, Mali, like the whole of West Africa, lack of infrastructures of the spectacle and audiovisual technical professions training. In this way, our history illustrates the scarcity of initiatives. YET THE POTENTIAL AND NEEDS ARE THERE!

To help change this situation, we need your help to succeed in this campaign, which is the first step in the implementation of the project.

WHAT IS AfriSCENE?

AfriSCENE is a training project for technicians of the spectacle and audiovisual in Mali and Africa. It is based on a partnership with recognized training structures in Belgium and France but also on a large network of West African partners. Beyond training, AfriSCENE intends to contribute to the professionalization of the local cultural sector by federating a network of professionals of the spectacle and audiovisual. Its headquarters will be located in Bamako, Mali and will develop its activities throughout the sub region.

CONCRETELY?Thanks to the infrastructures of our local members, the contributions of our partners, to our network of trainers and our various specializations, trainings in Sound, Light, Video and Management will be set up. We will also animate workshops on these professions during festivals and events.

Training will be free of access to all according to certain criteria; Three (3) trainees per country will be monitored over a two-year period. They will participate in various formations and festivals in other countries to highlight exchanges of experiences. Our goal being that they will turn one day into trainers; A training studio in audiovisual and 'MAO will be set up and accommodated in Bamako. Indeed, considering the growing success of the music assisted by computer-(MAO) and the potential that this represents, it is important to offer specific training on these fields.
