On Monday, Minister Gulab Chand Kataria in the State Assembly accused Pehlu Khan's family of being cow smugglers and said his son was accused in two cases.

But Irshad, Khan's eldest son was acquitted on both charges against him in 2011, which were both filed by gau rakshaks.

55-year-old Pehlu Khan too, had no cases registered against him.

55-year-old Pehlu Khan was expecting to increase milk production and thus decided to buy a milch cow instead of a milch buffalo.

Pehlu Khan, his 2 sons, and 2 villagers were on their way back from Jaipur, when they were confronted by 'gau rakshaks.'

They were dragged out and assaulted with sticks and belts.

Pehlu Khan succumbed to his injuries and died.

06 Apr 2017: Alwar: Men beaten by cow vilgilantists were transporting cattle legally

The five men beaten by 'gau-rakshaks' on the Jaipur-Delhi highway near Behror, had legal permits for the purpose of transporting cattle.

The vehicles were carrying 10 cattle amongst them and were attacked by gau rakshaks, that alleged that the cows were being smuggled for slaughter.

According to the victim, they had paid Rs. 700 to Jaipur Muncipal Corporation for the transport permit.

Fact: Demands made for justice

People's Union of Civil Liberties, Rajasthan, has demanded that each of the gau rakshaks involved should be arrested, the state government should compensate Khan's family with Rs. 1 crore for "failing to protect" him and also pay other victims Rs. 10 lakh.

06 Apr 2017: Alwar: Naqvi denies incident, Azad slams minister

As the Alwar incident took a political turn, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi denied in Parliament that any such incident had taken place, as was being described by the opposition.

This led to massive uproar. Congress's Ghulam Nabi Azad said, "Even the New York Times knows and the minister doesn't know."

Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi demanded strict action against the guilty.

07 Apr 2017: Gau rakshaks: SC gives Centre, states 3 weeks to respond PC: .cls-2{fill:#9c9c9c;}

The SC has sought responses within three weeks from the Centre as well as Gujarat, UP, MP, Jharkhand, Rajasthan and Karnataka, on a petition seeking a ban on 'cow protection' vigilantes.

Congress leader Tehseen Poonawalla, petitioner, wants 'gau raksha' groups to be declared illegal.

Various states have defended attacks attributing them to religious sentiments attached to cows.

The next hearing is on May 3.

19 Apr 2017: Alwar lynching: Kin threaten suicide if culprits roam free

Kin of Alwar lynching victim Pehlu Khan have threatened to commit suicide if the perpetrators aren't brought to justice soon.

Police are yet to nab the six accused, who have been absconding since April 5.

Relatives and locals protested in Jaipur demanding a court-monitored probe and immediate arrest of the guilty.

They also threatened massive agitations unless protective measures were taken for cow owners.
