Jordan- HCD, Barcelona Municipality discuss integration, empowerment of disabled people


(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN — HH Prince Mired, the president of the Higher Council for the Affairs of People with Disabilities (HCD), on Monday met with members of Barcelona Municipality to discuss the integration and empowerment of people with disabilities into society. Prince Mired commended the municipality's efforts in caring for disabled people, as Barcelona was among the first cities that provided the infrastructure necessary for the tourism of people with disabilities, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The prince reviewed the Kingdom's endeavours in this field, and expressed hope to benefit from Barcelona's expertise.

For their part, the delegates commended Jordan's efforts to protect the rights of people with disabilities and the higher council's role in this regard.

HCD Secretary General Mohannad Azzeh briefed the attendees on the draft law of people with disabilities for 2017, which is currently being discussed in Parliament.

Also on Monday, Yousef Shawarbeh, president of the Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) committee, met with the delegates and expressed GAM's keenness to overcome all challenges limiting the integration of people with disabilities in society, Petra reported.

GAM exerts great efforts to adopt projects that provide public facilities equipped to meet the needs of people with disabilities, Shawarbeh said.

Spanish Ambassador to Jordan Santiago Cabanas Ansorena highlighted the two kingdoms' long history of prosperous cooperation and exchange of expertise.
