(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, April 24: Senior officials from the General Traffic Department say records show there are about 115,000 vehicles whose insurance has not been renewed, reports Al-Rai daily. The General Traffic Department said one of the proposals to get rid of this phenomenon is by slapping KD 2 fine for each day of late renewal of insurance. Security sources said the other proposals include hike in the cost of services provided by the Ministry of Interior and particularly the GTD.
The proposed increase will be in the range of 25 percent to 100 percent on services such as the driver's licence, renewal of licence, car registration, and car registration renewal, issuing new registration books in case of loss, transfer of ownership, sale and export of vehicles.
The sources pointed out the proposal to raise fees in general and on traffic violations in particular is still with the Fatwa and Legislation Department and the reasons for delay is due to lack of clarity of the mechanism of the Transport Authority since some of the powers of the General Traffic Department are to be handed over to the Transport Authority.
Therefore, the Fatwa and Legislation Department is still trying to work out the modalities to prevent the overlapping of duties and duplication of work.

Nepali held: The Ahmadi police have arrested an unidentified Nepali for bootlegging, reports Al-Anba daily. The daily added, police acting on a tip-off raided the man's apartment in Sabah Al-Ahmad and confiscated from him 154 barrels of brew and 30 cartons of bottles filled with booze ready for sale. This is in addition to alcohol manufacturing equipment. The bootlegger and the contraband have been handed over to the General Department for Drugs and Alcohol Control.

Kuwaiti blackmailed: Personnel from the Criminal Investigations Department have arrested five people — two young women and three Kuwaiti youths – for blackmailing and robbing a Kuwaiti man, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily said following a complaint filed by the victim, police put the building where one of the women lives, under surveillance and arrested her. She then guided police to her accomplices.
Earlier it was reported a 52-yearold retired Kuwaiti had filed a complaint with the Salwa Police Station stating a young woman befriended him via the social media and then reportedly invited him to her place in Salwa. When the man went to the apartment he found another woman with the invitee. A short time later, the three youths entered and asked him to hand over all his money and threatened to stab him and film him naked. They then stole KD 100 from the man and kicked him out of the building.

Bedoun acquitted: The Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Ibrahim Al-Abeed overturned the verdict issued by the Court of First Instance which sentenced a Bedoun man to 15-year imprisonment followed by deportation after completion of the prison term. The court instead acquitted him of the charges of drug peddling, drug consumption and unlicensed possession of a gun and ammunition.
