GCC Red Crescent societies meet in Oman

MUSCAT, 23rd April, 2017 (WAM) -- The fifth workshop for members of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Red Crescent societies, organised by the Human Rights and Environment Sector in the GCC Secretariat, kicked off in the Omani capital of Muscat on Sunday.

The event will continue until 27th April.

Dr. Yahya Al-Mawali, Under-Secretary at the Ministry of Social Development and member of the Board of Directors of the Omani Charitable Organisation (OCO), described the meeting as an opportunity to exchange common experiences in the fields of humanitarian and relief work among the GCC States.

Al-Mawali also stressed Oman's keenness to provide humanitarian support to the needy at local and international levels.

For his part, Bader Al-Zubairi, head of Red Crescent societies' department of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretariat, stressed the importance of the role played by the Red Crescent societies in providing humanitarian aid and work at the international level.

The five-day workshop will include video presentations by the Omani National Civil Defense Commission, which will review its efforts in providing aid, assistance and relief to the people in need.

The seminar will also include lectures, workshops and orientation visits for members of the Red Crescent societies in GCC countries.
