Alibaba's Lazada digs in ahead of Amazon's Southeast Asia entry

(MENAFN- Asia Times) The delay of Amazon's planned launch in Southeast Asia earlier this year has given its biggest rival in the region a chance to dig in ahead of the looming battle.

Alibaba majority owned e-commerce firm Lazada has announced plans to team up with Netflix and Uber to offer an Amazon Prime-esque membership service in the region, reports TechCrunch.

The service will first launch in Singapore, the market targeted by Amazon as their entry point to Southeast Asia.

The service, called LiveUp, should also give Netflix and Uber a leg up in the fast-growing market.
