(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Some Meshrano Jirga or upper house members on Sunday welcomed the US for dropping its largest bomb on Daesh) militants in eastern Nangarhar province but others condemned the attack.
The US Department of Defense had said it used the MOAB on IS or Daesh hideouts and tunnels in Achin district late on Thursday.
Nangarhar officials said 94 Daesh militants including a number of their commanders had perished in the bombardment.
The incident on Sunday drew criticism and applause from lawmakers. Government officials said the attack had been carried out in coordination with them. But former president, Hamid Karzai and some other officials had strongly condemned the US action.
Hamid Karzai called the attack as treason. However, senator Daud Ghafari from Ghor province told today's session that calling the bomb attack on Daesh as treason meant supporting the terrorists. 'Our politicians should not damage national interests for their own goals.'
Anarkali Hunaryar, another Meshrano Jirga member, said: 'The massive bombing was fully coordinated with the Afghan government, we welcome it, the enemies of Afghanistan should be destroyed with such attacks.'
However, a number of other senators criticized the attack. Nader Baloch from Nimroz province said: 'This case is a matter of concern, we wish the bomb was dropped on the mother of terrorism so people get rid of the evil.'
He asked Afghan leaders and politicians to put aside their differences and prevent a possible dropping of 'the father of all bombs' in the north of Afghanistan.
Reports say the father of all bombs is with Russia and is more powerful than the one used in Achin district of Nangarhar.
Jumaddin Gayanwal, a senator from Paktika province, said, 'Such bombs should be used in Quetta, Miranshah and Peshawar because these are centers of terrorists, Afghanistan is not a laboratory.'
'We do not oppose the fight against Daesh but weapons should be used based on international conversions and law,' another senator, Zalmai Zabulai, said.
Senator Nisar Haris said: 'Using the mother of all bombs is banned because it can damage farms, water and environment.' He asked government leaders to adopt right policies and not let Afghanistan turn into another Syria.
'Dropping the heaviest bomb in Achin meant display of power, not to destroy Daesh, why they do not target main centers of terrorism,' another senator Mohammad Hanif Hanafi said.
He asked the US to press Pakistan to stop supporting terrorism. Hanafi claimed Daesh was created by America. 'Dropping the largest bomb is the beginning of a new war and possibly Russia will attack Faryab under fight against Daesh,' he said.
Mohammad Alam Ezdyar, first deputy chairman of upper house, said: 'The largest attack on Daesh in Nangarhar caused no civilian casualties, your views worth attention but we should know whether the use of this bomb is allowed or not.'
'We should also investigate to know whether it was an attack on Daesh or a military maneuver and threatening Russia,' he added.
