As a part of their on-going efforts, Qatar Charity (QC) launched an emergency relief campaign in Kenya aimed at providing food and medical supplies to at least 10,000 people in the most affected provinces by the drought.
The campaign was launched at a ceremony attended by Ali bin Abdullah Al Abdullah, the chargé d'affaires for Qatar, the Governor of Kajiado Province, other officials and a large number of residents.
Prasing the humanitarian intervention, David Nkedianye, Kajiado Governor, said that QC's intervention, through this emergency relief campaign, takes place at an appropriate time due to the magnitude of the damage caused by the drought in more than one Kenyan province.
He mentioned that QC's generous aid to drought-affected people in Kajiado has flared up hope inside the residents and helped the region's residents, who have begun to migrate seeking the main necessities of life after losing their livestock and failing to cultivate their fields because of water scarcity, settle again.
He added that QC's intervention to confront Kenya's drought obviously reflects the strong relationship between the two peoples, depicts the optimised image of humanitarian brotherhood, and expresses the generosity of Qatar, both people and government, who is used to do great favors through the humanitarian and development projects which have been a great help indeed for the Kenyan people. 'We are all very grateful for the Qatari people and the government for their support in this huge crisis., he concluded.

A harsh Situation
Mohammed Hussain Omar, QC's Regional Office Director, assured that QC's relief campaign was a part of their enormous efforts in Horn of Africa to help drought-affected people, especially in Kenya and Somalia.
He pointed out that thousands of families in many provinces of Kenya suffer from a difficult humanitarian situation as a result of losing livelihood sources such as livestock that died of drought. Mr. Omar also mentioned that the campaign benefited 1300 families, and provided them with food aid. Within this campaign, which targeted 10,000 people, they offered medical services to more than 1000 people and they promise to continue their efforts in this field. It is worth mentioning that this relief campaign is the second relief work carried out by the Office in Kenya during the past three months.
In response to the drought crisis in the region, QC has implemented a drinking water distribution project benefiting 3,600 residents of the cities of Baidoa and Buurhakaba and the neighboring villages, which suffer from severe drinking water shortages resulted in the death of many people.
Believing that water is the pulse of life, QC has used three tankers to supply the residents with water throughout the period before the rainy season, and this is a motive for settling-down for the population of the most affected region.
