Qatar witnesses 5% increase in population

Qatar's population reached over 2.6 million at end of February 2017, with an annual increase of 5 percent compared to the same period last year, according to a monthly report issued by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics.
A total of 1,867 babies born and 191 people died last month and at least, 279 marriages and 97 divorces took place.
Traffic violations came down by 16 percent at 158,213 violations last month compared to January. The report also shows a significant decrease in the number of radar violations during February 2017 in comparison to the previous month, when it reached 106,360.
New vehicles registered in February 2017 reached 6,225, down by 13.7 percent compared to January , when t 7,213 new vehicles were registered. As many as 485 traffic accidents were reported during February down 14.2 percent in comparison to January. Six people died in accidents during the period.
The report showed a monthly decrease of 13 percent in electricity consumption, with over two million Mega Watt/Hour during February 2017 and a decrease by 10 percent in the total water consumption with 39,831 m3 during the same period.
In regard to passengers movement at Hamad International Airport, the total number of Arrivals has reached about 1.5 million passengers during February 2017, while the total number of Departures totaled more than 1.4 million passengers during the same period. Thus, the total number of Arrivals recorded an annual rise of 9.8%, while the total number of Departures recorded an annual rise of 12.2%. In the same context, the total number of Arrivals to Doha reached approximately 437,000 passengers, and scored a monthly decrease of 10.1% compared to January 2017. The total number of Departures from Doha reached approximately 376,000 passengers, and scored a monthly decrease of 21.2% compared to January 2017.
The total number of sold properties has reached only 289 properties during February 2017, and thus recorded a 30% decrease in comparison to January 2017 where the total number of sold properties has reached 414 properties. The bulletin shows a decrease in number of sold properties in all municipalities except for Al Wakra and Al Shamal municipalities. The total value of properties sold amounted to approximately QR1.6bn during February 2017.
In regard to the type of sold properties, the bulletin has showed an increase in the number of vacant lands sold by 8.7%. As the total number of vacant lands sold during February 2017 amounted to 162 lands with a total value over QR565m, while the total number of vacant lands sold during past January 2017 amounted to 149 lands with a total value of QR683m. In contrast, the bulletin showed a decrease in number of residential housing sold by 80%. As the total number of residential houses sold during February 2017 amounted to 39 houses with a total value of QR181m, while the total number of residential housing sold during past January 2017 amounted to 211 houses with a total value of QR790.8m.
